I had the most magical night out at Prairie Oaks where I had the honor of meeting six beautiful women who wanted to celebrate one of the most beautiful (if occasionally painful and messy) parts of motherhood: breastfeeding.

There’s always been a lot of controversy about women breastfeeding in public, so it’s very rarely a part of childcare that’s celebrated. Instead, it’s usually banned or hidden from the public eye and called “indecent”. But I think that it’s amazing that we can make food for babies with just our bodies, and that breastmilk has all the nutrients and vitamins that babies need to grow big and strong! We can literally take care of our babies with nothing more than our own bodies! Isn’t that incredible?

So instead of having women hide themselves away while they’re breastfeeding, I wanted to give them the center stage and celebrate this miracle that we’re able to accomplish every day. Together we did  portraits of each six women breastfeeding their babies. It was a beautiful and empowering night, but most of all, it was just fun to spend time together with so many moms and talk about the joys and pains of breastfeeding (and every other aspect of motherhood!) and wearing stylish outfits and cuddling babies. I brought us all together for the purpose of bringing light to a bigger issue – and I had the honor of seeing my dream come true in real time – and had the joy of seeing these wonderful women bring the same light to each other and to me.

I am so, so glad that I had the opportunity to work with these phenomenal women, and I hope that they had as much fun that night as I did. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to make my dreams come true. I hope the pictures I took remind you of the miracles that we’re capable of, and the magic of finding beautiful people to spend our time with. I can’t wait to do something like this again. Until then, I hope you continue bringing light to everyone around you and that you continue to celebrate yourselves even if the world chooses not to. You deserve every second of it.
